Getting Creative
It’s been nice getting back to my creative work. So what have I been up to in the past couple of weeks? Here’s some of the artwork I’ve done recently (plus one I did at some point last year).
Last week, I finished working on a short story set (“How the Mourning Willow Came to Saunderbir”) in the world of my Griefborn dark-fantasy/urban fantasy novel series, as well as some cover art to go along with it.
I also did some cover art for one of my wife’s short stories. Gwendalyn Cope is a horror author and she asked me to create a cover for her story “Mercy Street”. Beware, she doesn’t pull any punches and her stuff is definitely not for sensitive audiences or snowflakes. I think the cover art and design I settled on should give you a pretty good idea of what might be in store in her writing. I also created her author logo (whom I call “Chainsaw Annie”) and blog banner.
And as for something a little older, last year she asked me to paint something on her denim jacket. She’s been getting into cranes lately (the birds, not the construction equipment) and I ended up doing a painting based on the January matsu Crane Hanafuda card. We’re both pretty thrilled with the way it turned out!

Love the Mourning Willow artwork. Very moody…
Thank you! Exactly what I was going for. Love me some moodiness. ‘Cuz I’m all goth, yo.
